Côte d'Ivoire- Réforme électorale, déguerpissements et pouvoir d'achat: les propositions du PDCI-RDA
The PDCI-RDA party held a press conference this Wednesday, June 10th, in Abidjan-Cocody. During the conference, party spokesperson Soumaïla Bédoumy addressed several current issues, including electoral reform, evictions, flooding, the high cost of living, and illegal gold mining. The party called for a form of governance more focused on the daily concerns of the people. The PDCI-RDA intends to actively participate in discussions regarding the country's future electoral structure. According to Soumaïla Bédoumy, the dissolution of the Independent Electoral Commission should pave the way for the establishment of a new, more credible body, based on consensus, transparency, and independence. Another concern raised was the living conditions of the population. The PDCI-RDA spokesperson denounced the increasing number of evictions, recurring floods, and unsanitary conditions in several neighborhoods. The party is particularly critical of the eviction operations carried out during the school exam period and is calling for improved urban planning and relocation solutions for the affected populations. On the economic front, the PDCI-RDA believes that the high cost of living continues to weaken Ivorian households. Despite the economic performance reported by the authorities, the party notes a decline in purchasing power and increasing difficulties for families in meeting expenses for healthcare, education, transportation, and food. The PDCI-RDA is therefore calling for stronger support measures for the population. The party has also addressed the issue of illegal gold mining. This activity is considered a threat to the environment, water resources, and the national economy. The PDCI-RDA advocates for strengthened efforts to combat this phenomenon through a strategy combining prevention, law enforcement, and support for the affected populations. Finally, Soumaïla Bédoumy called for unity and cohesion within his political party, reaffirming the party's support for its president, Tidjane Thiam. For the PDCI-RDA, the country's current challenges require more political dialogue, better protection of the population, and consensual reforms, particularly on electoral matters.
