A Macro Photography Walk
I’m currently travelling through the Ancient Caledonian Pine Forest of Scotland and in this first of two videos I head out on an instructional ancient woodland and macro photography walk in search of intimate woodland scenes and smaller natural details. This film focuses on woodland photography within the ancient Caledonian forest, exploring both wider woodland compositions and close-up macro photography subjects found deeper within the trees. Rather than searching for a specific image, I allow the woodland, light, and conditions to shape the direction of the day. Throughout the video I discuss my approach to photography, how I work within complex woodland environments and the importance of slowing down and responding to what nature provides rather than forcing compositions. The film also includes an unexpected insert from a personal outing earlier in the trip, where I captured a dark and atmospheric blue-hour woodland image amongst the trees; a scene that felt too compelling not to include. If you enjoy woodland photography, macro photography, intimate landscapes, and instructional nature photography videos filmed in wild places, I hope you enjoy spending time with me in this remarkable Scottish forest.
