A Lacquer Cabinet Brought Back to Life

The Rijksmuseum carried out extensive research and conservation on a rare 17th-century Dutch lacquered cabinet. A method was developed for removing the thick varnish that concealed the richness of the original decoration layers. Damaged areas in the black lacquer were retouched.
