Città di Otranto

Otranto is the easternmost municipality in Salento, Italy. Due to its geographical location and history, it is considered the Gateway to the East, a crossroads of ancient Mediterranean cultures. The area is among the 100 most beautiful municipalities in Italy, and much of its magnificent coastline is protected by the Costa Otranto – S. Maria di Leuca and Bosco di Tricase Regional Park. Otranto's history is ancient, dating back to the 11th century BC. A protagonist of major Mediterranean historical events, Otranto still bears witness to the passage of the many peoples who have shaped it.
