As often happens, many people have a vague idea of ​​what's really going on and what we, as European citizens, are truly risking. The first thing to know is this: when we talk about "Chat Control," we're actually talking about two different things, which are constantly confused. On the one hand, there's the temporary exemption, approved by the EU Parliament yesterday, which allows platforms to voluntarily scan communications for child abuse material. On the other hand, however, there's Chat Control 2.0, a permanent regulation, still under negotiation for years, which could make that scanning mandatory even for encrypted communications.
