1200 years old Ranganathaswamy Temple, Magadi, Karnataka A very ancient temple built by the Chaukyas and later improved by the founder of Bangalore - Kempe Gowda, is found close to Bangalore at Magadi. It is said that VISHNU appeared to Sage Mandovi as a Swamaybhu Saligrama in the shape of Kurma (tortoise ). Right behind this is a beautiful statue of Venkateshwara. Behind structure is a Ranganthaswamy idol on the rock which is believed to be growing to this day! It is also called "Beleyo Ranga" in Kannada as the idol here keeps growing. Also this is the only temple where Sri. Lakshmi is placed opposite to Sri Venkateshwara. There's also a lovely idol of Ranganayaki.
