NYC Crime Spot x Manny Grossman - The Cold and Curious Case of Leslie Zaret

Aug 16, 1974 It’s after 11pm and 17 year old Leslie Zaret, a recent graduate of John Browne high school , is leaving her best friend Laura Gold’s house located at 14818 58th avenue in Flushing, Queens, NY. She first makes a stop at pioneer pub, located at 5920 main st where she looks for a boyfriend. He’s not there. She turns around and heads for her home at 13854 68th drive, located in the Kew Gardens Hills section of Queens. She would never make it home that night and by 5 am her father David Zaret was contacting authorities to report of his daughters disappearance. Later that morning, the ps 203 school yard in bayside queens, just a few miles from Leslies last whereabouts. A custodian of the school arrives for his morning route and enters the schoolyard. He finds the body of 17 year old Leslie Zaret laying in the school yard . She was naked , bruised, with her clothes and platform shoes neatly placed at her side. She had been strangled, sexually assaulted and a hairbrush had been inserted into her. While there are many scenarios as to what happened that night and even a potential suspect who remains unnamed, it still remains one of the biggest cold cases in NYC history.
