He Embarked On Serious Study From The Age Of 14, Being Trained In The Dramatic Aspects Of Opera By His Father (William A.C Lloyd). He Studied Violin And Finished His Music And Compositional Studies At ‘Trinity College London’, Studying Under Frank Kitson And Harry Farjeon, And In 1932, His First Opera ’LERNIN’ (Written When He Was Only 19) Secured His Reputation As A Composer After It Gained The Attention And Acclaim From Other Notable Composers Of The Day Such As Thomas Beecham, John Ireland And Ralph Vaughan Williams. George Lloyd’s Musical Career Was Interrupted By World War 2, Were He Served As A Bandsman In The Royal Marines Aboard ’H.M.S Trinidad’ Escorting Arctic Convoys To Murmansk, And Suffered Severe Shell Shock After A Tragic Torpedo Strike On The Ship. After A Long Recovery In Switzerland With Help Of His Wife Nancy, He Resumed Composing, And By 1947 Had Written His 4th And 5th Symphonies. At The Release Of This CD, George Lloyd Has Written 12 Symphonies, 4 Piano Concertos, 2 Violin Concertos, 3 Operas, A Large Cantata For Chorus And Strings Called ‘The Vigil Of Venus’ As Well As A Numerous Of Smaller Pieces, Including Several Major ‘Test Pieces’ For Brass Band Such As ‘DIVERSIONS ON A BASS THEME’ - ‘ROYAL PARKS’ And ‘ENGLISH HERITAGE’ ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ ROYAL PARKS - The Music The Composer, ’GEORGE LLOYD’ Was Commissioned By The BBC To Write ’ROYAL PARKS’ For Use As The ‘Set Test-Piece’ For The 1985 ’European Brass Band Championships’ That Were Held In ‘The Tivoli Gardens Concert Hall’, Copenhagen. Each Of The 3 Movements Of This Contest Work Reflects A Different Aspect Of ’Regents Park’ One Of The ‘Royal Parks’ Found In London, England. 1.
