Tommy's Trains - Chasing 37s
After missing out on seeing lots of action in Carlisle today including Class 20 trains because of Daddy's shifts, we make up for it by chasing two class 37s from Wylam to Seaton Delaval. We started our evening by meeting Grandad and Nan at The White Swan in Ovingham for tea and a catch up before making the short journey to Wylam. We warmed up with a few Northern trains before the main event when two Class 37s (37409 Loch Awe and 37403 Ilse of Mull) came around the corner into sight. They both kind of snuck up on us and must have also caught the signaller out as the level crossing wasn't down in time. That was great news for us as it meant they stopped right in front of us firstly providing a great photo opportunity and secondly some fantastic noises as they pulled away. There was no time to waste after they'd gone as we knew we had about 36 minutes to make a 20 minute journey to Seaton Delaval to see them again. We jumped into the car and Daddy drove as fast as possible (keeping within the legal limits and keeping everyone safe) out of Wylam, along the A69, up the A1 and down the A19 toward Seaton Delaval. We ended up making it comfortably and therefore had a bit of time to see a few more Northerns before the stars of the night arrived again. There was quite a big crowd there to see them which was nice to see and nice to chat to other enthusiasts. A brilliant night, doing something we've never done before. We'll definitely try to chase a train again when the opportunity presents itself. We should admit that Tommy is a big Francis Bourgeois fan and was inspired by his videos. After seeing some older boys creating videos of trains at our local station, we were inspired to give it a go ourselves. Our main aim is to have fun spending quality father/son time together whilst creating videos of interesting trains at lots of different stations, waving at the drivers to show how much we appreciate them. Sometimes they wave back, sometimes they blast the horn and other times, they're busy doing their important job. Daddy records whilst Tommy stays in front of the camera. We have lots of fun but SAFETY is always our priority. We'd love to hear your feedback and any suggestions of interesting places to visit for my next video. Cut 🙂
