Southeastern Railway Museum - Southern 6901 Returns! (4K)

Nestled within the heart of Duluth, Georgia, the Southeastern Railway Museum is home to a vast collection of locomotives and rolling-stock hailing from Georgia and beyond. Within this collection is one of the crown jewels and face of the museum: Southern Railway E8a No. 6901. This E8 was one of the Southern's sharp green-and-gold units ordered from EMD in 1951. These units were notable for being the main power on the Southern's famed Crescent, crossing the Deep South on its way from Washington DC to New Orleans. After being donated in 1979 as Amtrak took over passenger service, the 6901 would find a new home at the Southeastern Railway Museum. After years of wear and a short stint on the New Georgia Railroad, the unit was mechanically restored in the 2010s, but the green and gold on the unit had slowly faded out. After a months-long cosmetic restoration involving a full repaint, the 6901 would make its grand return, being joined by the museum's Southern SW7 No. 8202, and a rare look at Norfolk Southern's No. 1231 "Atlanta", a unit apart of Norfolk Southern's new Landmark series. Sit back, relax, and enjoy the return of Southern 6901!
