A new multi-story parking garage for domestic flights at Fukuoka Airport will open on the 16th. It will be located across from the domestic terminal building, next to the existing multi-story parking garage. Architect Kengo Kuma, whose work includes Tokyo's National Stadium, oversaw the exterior design. Parking congestion has been a major issue at Fukuoka Airport. According to Fukuoka Airport, wait times for arrivals could reach 50 minutes. As a result, the airport even ran a campaign to encourage passengers to use the international parking garage by offering reduced fees. The new multi-story parking garage will accommodate 1,617 cars, nearly double the previous capacity of 864. Three entrances are planned for autumn, raising great expectations for a drastic reduction in congestion. Inside, each floor from the first to the ninth floors features illustrations evocative of Fukuoka, and lights have been installed at each parking space to make it easier to find vacant spaces. Green indicates "available" and red indicates "occupied." There are also parking spaces for the disabled on two floors, and you can call an attendant via intercom. By the way, the current multi-story parking lot will be demolished and a complex facility including a hotel is scheduled to open sometime next year.
