DIY Blast Gates for Dust Collection!

BUILD PLANS FOR SALE: https://scottwalsh.co/collections/plans Since moving into my new shop in the fall, I had yet to set up my dust collection system. I was tired of my cheap plastic blast gates, and I want to eventually automate my whole dust collection system. Therefore, this was a fine time to design and build my own blast gates! I used ¾” and ¼” MDF for this, since the surface texture is so smooth and MDF tends to be flatter than plywood. Both of these attributes are important for a good seal around the gate. I didn’t really show installing all of the piping/ducting since it was a lot of boring head scratching, cursing and redoing things over and over again, hence why it took so long to produce this video (also it’s a busy time of year for everyone, including me). I didn’t really go into any depth for the automation aspect in this video, but I hope to be releasing that one soon with a bunch of information regarding signals, controls, programming and logic controllers.
