Who is really winning India’s wireless data usage battle — Airtel, Jio or Vodafone Idea? At first glance, Jio appears to dominate because it reports the highest total data consumption. But the real story is more nuanced. Jio’s total data includes mobile, FWA, UBR and wireline broadband usage. Airtel and Vodafone Idea report cleaner 4G/5G mobile customer usage numbers, excluding FWA and UBR. In this video, I break down TRAI data, Airtel KPIs, Vodafone Idea KPIs and Reliance Jio’s reported total data consumption to estimate who is actually leading in mobile data usage per 4G/5G customer. The conclusion is clear: Airtel leads in mobile data usage per 4G/5G customer. Jio leads in total data volume because of its large mobile base plus FWA, UBR and wireline broadband traffic. Vodafone Idea is improving, but still remains third in mobile data usage intensity.
