In this video, you see footage of a major fire that broke out on March 3, 2026, around 11:30 AM at a food processing company in the Port of Antwerp. The fire started on a conveyor belt between two silos at a considerable height, making firefighting particularly difficult. The silos were loaded with barley and malt, which caused the fire to spread rapidly. Eventually, the flames partially spread to both silos, and the entire company was evacuated as a precaution. Due to the scale of the incident, a Pre-Alarm MIP (Medical Intervention Plan) was declared. Officers coordinate the multidisciplinary response, including a Fire Officer, Police Officer, and Director of Medical Services. If necessary, the Rode Kruis-Vlaanderen can also be deployed with specialized teams and ambulances. Ultimately, the medical impact was limited, allowing emergency services to fully focus on firefighting. The operation was exceptionally large and involved all fire zones in the province of Antwerp: Brandweer Zone Antwerpen, Brandweer Zone Rand, Brandweer Zone Rivierenland, Brandweer Zone Taxandria, and Brandweer Zone Kempen. In addition, Civiele Bescherming Brasschaat supported with specialized equipment to pump large amounts of water from the canal. The combination of height, flammable load, and industrial infrastructure made this a technically challenging and unique operation. Around 3:30 PM, the fire was declared under control. Focus then shifted to targeted extinguishing, which lasted well into the night, with different units rotating to sustain the long and intensive operation.
