Let's Play Silent Hill #1 - Welcome to Silent Hill

Welcome to Let's Play Silent Hill. In this episode we hang out in a sketchy alley, trespass, and talk about the origins of Silent Hill and why it's the best horror game ever made. In 1996 Capcom released Resident Evil to fan and critical acclaim. Silent Hill, which began development that year, was to be Konami's response to Resident Evil. Instead, it became the opposite side of the same coin. Where Resident Evil played with more overt themes and threats, Team Silent took Silent Hill in a decidedly different direction by focusing on psychological horror. The release of Silent Hill in 1999 spawned a beloved franchise consisting of numerous sequels (2, 3, The Room, Shattered Memories, Homecoming, Downpour, Book of Memories), spin-offs (Orphanage, The Arcade) and adaptations (Silent Hill: The Movie, Silent Hill Revelations 3D, numerous dreadful comics). The initial run of Silent Hill games produced by Team Silent are widely recognized as masterpieces not only for their mastery of disturbing psychological horror, but for their excellent writing and storytelling as well.
