The Salaf's Description of Muhasabah This text opens with three heart-shaking stories: *Ibrahim at-Taimi*: He imagined himself in heaven enjoying its fruits, drinking from its rivers, and hugging angels. Then imagine himself in hell eating zaqqum, drinking pus, and shackled in chains. Then ask his soul: "O soul, what do you want?" The soul answered: "I want to be returned to the world to do good deeds." So he said: "Then you are given the opportunity to dream, then do charity"【 ]. This means that as long as the door to charity is still open, don't delay. *Malik bin Dinar and Al-Hajjaj*: Al-Hajjaj's sermon was mentioned in the pulpit which made people cry: "May Allah have mercy on someone who accounts for himself before the reckoning is handed over to someone else... May Allah have mercy on someone who is in control of his deeds and then pays attention to what he uses them for... May Allah have mercy on someone who looks at the measure, may Allah have mercy on someone who looks at the scales"【 ]. So muhasabah here is like weighing each charity carefully. *Al-Ahnaf bin Qais*: He usually prays more in his evening prayers. He approached the lamp and put his finger in the fire until it felt hot, then said to himself: "O Hunayf, what made you do this and that on that day?"【 ]. This is a form of educating the soul so that it does not repeat sins. 2. Meaning of Muhasabah: Like a Trader's Calculation The author equates a servant's muhasabah with a merchant's calculations at the end of the day, month or year【 ]. *Principal Capital*: Obligations/fardhu. *Benefits*: Sunnah and priority. *Disadvantages*: Immorality and sin. If you fulfill the fardhu perfectly, then thank Allah and motivate yourself to repeat it. If you miss it, sue yourself to make up for it. If it's not perfect, cover it with sunnah. If you commit a sin, busy yourself with punishing, torturing, and criticizing yourself to atone for your negligence【 ]. 3. Accuracy and Scope of Muhasabah Muhasabah is not only on major sins, but on: "All his movements and silences... his speech, his gaze, the trajectory of his heart, his standing, sitting, eating, drinking, sleeping, even his silence: why is he silent?"【 ]. Because the soul is "deceitful, deceitful, and cunning"【 ], then if left unaccounted for it will harm you. The text concludes with the story of Taubah ibn Ash-Shammah who calculated his age: 60 years = 21,500 days. Then he cried out: "Woe is me! I will meet the King with 21,000 sins, what if there are 10,000 sins every day?" Then he fainted and apparently died. [ ]. Conclusion: This text aims to awaken the heart from negligence.
