ATV Reverse Stopped Working | Is it Pooched?

Has your ATV reverse stopped working? Is it pooched? This is the scenario I find myself in on today's episode as I look into the problem I"m having with no reverse gear on my 2005 Polaris Sportsman 700. Although it's probably not advisable, I have been still driving my ATV in forward since that still works as I had hoped that the reverse would magically start working again. After a few weeks of this the wheels still lock up solid when trying to go in reverse and so here we are. I"m in the shop trying to diagnose the problem with my trusty workhorse of an ATV in hopes that it is something small. After looking past all the year-old crud and mud, you'll find the source of the problem just at the same time I do. As I continue looking further and further into the guts of this Polaris Sportsman I quickly reach for additional tools as more problems are found. One thing is for certain, I don't think the engineers at Polaris planned on having a hammer as a diagnostic tool when designing these machines. Ah well, whatever works!
