Advocate Assaulted in Morjim; Father-Son Duo Arrested, Hunt On for Others

Mandrem Police have arrested Dhruva, son of Dileep @ Loshan Morje (30), and Dileep @ Loshan, son of Manguesh Morje (55), in connection with the alleged assault on advocate Ankur Kumar while he was facilitating the implementation of Supreme Court and Bombay High Court orders for the demolition of an allegedly illegal coastal structure in Morjim. According to the FIR registered by Mandrem Police, the incident occurred at around 11.45 am on July 17 at Temwada, Morjim, when the advocate and his client, Anil Prabhakar Naik, were at the site in connection with a court-ordered demolition arising out of a contempt petition. As per the complaint, the accused, along with eight to ten other persons, allegedly formed an unlawful assembly armed with deadly weapons. The complainant alleged that the group wrongfully restrained their vehicles by blocking their path before allegedly pelting stones and striking the advocate's car with iron rods, causing damage. The FIR further states that Ankur Kumar and his client were allegedly dragged out of their vehicle and assaulted with fists, kicks and concrete bricks. Kumar reportedly sustained grievous injuries, including a fractured eye socket and facial injuries, while Naik also suffered bodily injuries. Their clothes were allegedly torn during the assault, and the accused allegedly threatened to kill them if they approached the police. Following the complaint, Mandrem Police registered a case and launched an investigation. Police have so far arrested Dhruva Morje and Dileep Morje, while efforts are underway to identify and apprehend the remaining accused.
