構内踏切に自作の駅舎も!? Nゲージで北海道の駅と環境を演出!【匠の技】佐藤英也さん

Atelier Train aims to share the wonders of Japan with people around the world through dioramas, contributing to world peace. This time, we're introducing a diorama created by Hideya Sato, whom we interviewed at the Tokyo Diorama Exhibition 2026. The diorama is based on the former Himekawa Station on the Hakodate Main Line. This work, within the compact T-TRAK standard size (618mm wide x 355mm deep), meticulously captures the unique atmosphere of a local station in Hokkaido. Created based on on-site research and a strong commitment to scale, the station building, facilities, and vegetation are impressive, all constructed by hand without relying on ready-made parts. In particular, the "late autumn atmosphere of Hokkaido" expressed through the colors of withered grass and trees, and the deliberately sparse composition with limited information, are major characteristics of this work. It's a landscape that thrives not on flashy effects, but on negative space and tranquility. This accumulation of elements creates a work that evokes memories of the actual station and the passage of time. Furthermore, this work has a history of having suffered significant damage during past exhibitions, but was restored to its current state through repairs. I was able to feel the emotions embedded in the work, including the production process itself. Through this interview, I was once again strongly reminded of the profoundness of the theme of "how to translate atmosphere into a model," and I felt inspired to try recreating Hokkaido scenery myself!
