The Essence of Repentance and the Difficulty of Repentance for the Salaf Summary: This text explains that repentance is a very difficult and important matter, not a trivial matter. 1. The Greatness of Repentance Imam Abu Ishaq al-Isfarayini, a great scholar, prayed for 30 years for sincere repentance. In a dream, he was rebuked: "Do you know what you are asking for? You are asking Allah to love you." Because Allah says: {Indeed, Allah loves those who repent and loves those who purify themselves}. So, repentance is the path to attaining Allah's love. 2. The Danger of Delaying Repentance The beginning of sin is hardening the heart, and its end is humiliation. The author reminds us of the story of Iblis and Bal'am bin Ba'ura, who initially committed only one sin and then culminated in disbelief. Signs of a heart blackened by sin: not feeling fear of sin, not feeling the joy of obedience, and not being influenced by advice. 3. Don't Underestimate Sin Small sins, if committed continuously, will become major ones. There is a verse: "Do not underestimate the smallest sins, because if they continue to be small they will become many." For example, Kuhmis bin al-Hasan cried for 40 years just because he once took a piece of land belonging to a neighbor to wash his guests' hands. 4. Repent Immediately We are commanded to immediately reflect and repent because death is unknown, the world is full of deception, and our enemies are lust and Satan. Take the example of Prophet Adam AS who only committed one sin, then was sent down from heaven and cried for 200 years until his repentance was accepted. If he was the only prophet like that, what about us whose sins are countless? 5. If you repeat a sin, repent again If after repenting we fall into sin again, then immediately repent again. Make repentance a habit, as we often make sin a habit. Don't lose in matters of repentance. The Prophet SAW said: "The best of you is everyone who often falls and then repents a lot." And Allah says: {And whoever does evil and wrongs himself, then asks Allah for forgiveness, he will surely find Allah Most Forgiving, Most Merciful} The essence of the message: Don't despair of Allah's grace.
