My Place is Our Place
In 1988, bicentenary year, Marrickville based author Nadia Wheatley, produced a book for children, ʻMy Placeʼ. It looks at history, in ten year intervals, from 1988 back to 1788. Life is seen through the eyes of children who lived during each era. The historical and geographical background of ʻMy Placeʼ, is based on ʻour placeʼ, the Parish of Cooks River, which includes the suburbs of St. Peters, Sydenham and Tempe. Some of the buildings have been relocated and dates adjusted to suit the story, but many places can be related to what exists today.
