Rib Cartilage Grafting-Harvesting

Have some fun :) on the anatomy model, in Turkish of course. Rhinoplasty surgeons are reluctant to use #ribcartilage as a graft material because of the risks such as scar formation, pnuemotorax, pain and rib graft bending. For #harvestingrib 1,5 cm incision is enough, preservation of the muscles, gentle manipulation and experience are mandatory for prevention of such complications. The most important problem with rib cartilage grafting is the risk of bending and this problem has been solved with the technique “The Oblique Split Method: A Novel Technique for Carving Costal Cartilage Grafts. Taştan E, et al. JAMA Facial Plast Surg. 2013” that we introduced to the literature. In order to reconstruct normal nasal anatomy, all of the required cartilage grafts, in different size and shape, can be easily provided by using this technique in the correct manner.
