This is Finland: Timo Lassy & Teppo Mäkynen at Flow Festival, Helsinki

TIMO LASSY & TEPPO MÄKYNEN, two household names of Finnish jazz, combine forces to present their powerful music at full speed. While saxophonist Lassy and drummer Mäkynen have collaborated for more than a decade in various bands such as the Five Corners Quintet, Teddy Rok 7, Jo Stance and the Timo Lassy Band, there is a feel of freshness, excitement and something new when listening to their latest release Live Recordings 2019-2020 (We Jazz Records, 2021). The live album follows the duo's 2019 LP which was shortlisted for Jazz Album of the Year at Gilles Peterson's Worldwide Awards. While the studio album versions were studies in improvisational brevity, onstage the long-time collaborators really let loose and build memorable sonic narratives around the compositions. “ZOMP”, composed by Lassy/Mäkynen, was originally released as a 7” single with the b-side “Dark Magenta” (We Jazz Records, 2019).
