For the first time of its kind in Rwanda: Ijabo Slam Festival is a two-day annual Festival organized by @umutartsrwanda to unify and empower artists from the Great Lakes region. The festival focuses on promoting integrity and prestige ("Ijabo") through the art of slam poetry. It seeks to provide a platform for diverse voices, particularly young and emerging poets from the region to express their creativity and address social issues through spoken word. The festival’s motto is “Imbaraga z'Ijambo,” translated as “The Power of Words.” We aim to inspire positive change and foster a sense of community through the powerful medium of slam poetry.
