CURING A MOLCAJETE | A Kitchen Treasure | Makes Delicious Salsas

In Mexican cooking, a molcajete is a pre-Hispanic mortar and pestle made from volcanic rocks used to grind spices and make delicious salsas. Molcajetes have two pieces: the basin (mortar) and the tejolote (grinder or pestle). They are a work of art crafted by artisans through sheer talent and years of exceptional experience. Gorgeous and authentic, cherish pieces like these are not found easily. So, how would you know if yours is authentic? First, it has a light sulfuric scent for knockoffs smell like cement or wet masonry mortar. Second, since it is painstakingly crafted by hands, it has asymmetrical legs. There are no two molcajetes that are alike because they are handmade and not manufactured by machines. Please bear with me as l show you how I cured my molcajete before I used it in making my delectable Molcajete Guacamole Salsa which will be shown in the next few days!
