Meanwhile, General Franco manages to add his troops to the rebel front and begins a successful campaign with the secret hope of seizing sole command of the war. The bloody turn of the conflict and the imprisonment of some of his colleagues lead Unamuno to begin questioning his initial stance and reconsidering his principles. When Franco moves his headquarters to Salamanca and is appointed Head of State of the Nationalist zone, Unamuno goes to his Palace, determined to plead for clemency. Alejandro Amenábar returns to filming in Spanish after The Sea Inside (winner of the 2005 Academy Award® for Best Foreign Language Film), with a true story that portrays Spain's recent past and brings back the figure of the exceptional writer Miguel de Unamuno.
