In the world of powerlifting, a sport that tests absolute strength, there's a man who, through self-study, has risen to the top in Nagasaki Prefecture. He's only been competing for three years. This autumn, he'll be competing in the National Sports Festival (Kokuspo) for the second time. Akihito Fukuda (32), from Nagasaki City, was originally a physique athlete, competing in the aesthetics of muscles. However, he became drawn to powerlifting, a sport that purely pursues strength, and switched three years ago. Despite competing without a coach and relying solely on self-study, he achieved a remarkable first victory in his first competition last year. He has also secured a place as a prefectural representative in this year's competition and will be competing in the Kokuspo to be held in Aomori in September 2026. (Broadcast June 25, 2026)
