Buncheon Village in Socheon-myeon, Bonghwa-gun, Gyeongsangbuk-do, is a remote village surrounded by layers of mountains; it takes two hours on foot from the bus stop—a journey of a staggering 10 ri—to reach it. One of the things the villagers cherish most is the village's makeshift station. Since they would otherwise have to cross rugged mountains over and over again, a train passing through the village station is, quite literally, the only passageway connecting them to the outside world. For this reason, about 20 years ago, the residents personally carried earth and stones to build a train station by hand in order to bring a train to stop in a village where trains did not previously operate. Completed through the sweat and tears of the village mothers and fathers, Yangwon Station is still regarded by railway enthusiasts as the smallest yet most beautiful small station. Among them, Grandma Yun A-gi, who lives less than 5 meters away from the railway tracks, is literally living in a "hut by the railroad tracks" and is considered the village's most famous figure. We encounter the residents who, after petitioning for over 30 years, personally carried soil and stones to build the small station and took charge of cleaning and maintaining the waiting room.
