What is actually wrong with capitalism — is it “unfair,” or is it “illegitimate”? 2. Is “exploitation” a moral accusation, or a structural diagnosis? 3. What is “alienation” really criticizing? 4. If capitalism must be overthrown, what gives legitimacy to the world that comes after? 5. Without the language of “rights” and “justice,” what is left to resist new forms of oppression? 6. Is Marxism a social science, or is it a political philosophy? 7. Can the contemporary left still use Marxism — and if so, which parts should be kept, and which parts must be abandoned? In this episode, we continue reading the Marxism chapter of Will Kymlicka’s “Contemporary Political Philosophy.” Many of us were taught “Marxism,” and we know the familiar vocabulary — capital, exploitation, the evil of private property, public ownership, and so on. But that version is still far from the full theoretical structure. Only by looking at the complete argument can we understand what Marx was actually claiming. And after a century of failed experiments, revisions, and reinterpretations, we have to ask: Did Marxist theory fail? In what sense did it succeed? How many political systems in the world today are explicitly socialist or lean toward socialism? Looking back from a world of widening inequality, what does Karl Marx still teach us about class power, domination, and legitimacy? If you find this useful, please watch, like, subscribe, and share.
