The names on the sarcophagi were recorded in the cathedral registry until 1692. After that year, the entries simply stop. No explanation. No final entry. The registry continues for another forty years — but only the crypt pages are blank. Those interred here were important enough to be placed beneath the cathedral. Important enough that someone, later, decided their names should not be remembered. The candles are not supposed to be lit. No one has been down here in three hundred years. And yet. Come down the stairs. Mind the last step.
