Diagnostic Versus "Needs" assessments
Whilst a thorough multidisciplinary assessment does identify "strengths and needs" I thought it would be helpful to share my thougths on what I'll call 'Diagnostic' Vs 'Needs' assessments. It's a common myth that you need a diagnosis to access provision / intervention however, yes, some schools do as for a specific diagnosis in order to apply. The only other thing to add is that multidisciplinary assessment diagnostic reports may not necessary meet the 'standard' expected for Statement / EHCP appeal reports (i.e. they may not quantify and specify the SLT / OT / Teaching Assistant provision required for your child).
