I DNF at Mile 98 in a 100 Mile Ultramarathon | Mountain Lakes 100
I took on my first 100 Mile Ultramarathon, the Mountain Lakes 100, taking place in Olalie Lake, Oregon and along the Pacific Crest Trail. There was some hot temperatures that day which made it harder, along with my dumb ass not bringing an extra set of batteries for my head lamps/ waist lamp. I had to cover 13 miles on the lowest dim setting. This probably slowed me down a. bit. Everything was going good until it wasn't. At Mile 95, I just cratered in on myself. No energy, sleep deprived, and now all of a sudden every step felt like walking on broken glass. I had 3 more miles to make it to the Olalie Meadows Aid station, which was mile 97.7 of the race. I knew I was not going to make the official cutoff time for the 100 Mile finish line. My pace had slowed to a snail crawl of 35 minute miles. I tried to will myself to go faster, but it did not work. Those last 3 miles were extremely hard, I was happy to get off that mountain without injury. Just trying to escape the Matrix. Thanks for watching.
