Blog and website: www.skillcult.com/blog Instagram and Facebook @SkillCult How to remove pine or fir pitch from your hands, axes and other tools? rub them with oil and wait a little while Sticky pitch comes off easily and stiffer pitch comes off a little slower, but it works very well and conditions your hands instead of drying them out. I got the council tool boys axe for 36.80 shipped to my door off of amazon. http://amzn.to/2gjhVzE (affiliate link) It has some issues, but overall it has potential. Things I like are the weight and length, steel, hafting quality, handle quality, and handle thickness (relative to a lot of new stuff). The balance is pretty good as is the hang. what I don't like is the aluminum wedge, which I need to struggle with removing in order to tighten the head. The grind is also very rough which requires a lot of work. That kind of work is expected on a bargain axe, but in order to work on it, you have to remove some of the thick, tough paint that most of the head is covered with. FYI, the head is hollow ground about an inch or less behind the cutting edge. so with a wooden wedge and no paint, the specimen I got seems like a deal at under 40.00 However, considering the work involved, the forest service version of this axe available from OmahaKnife might be a better deal and is supposed to be made of a higher grade of steel as well. You can get it hand selected for quality of handle etc for 70.00 shipped. I have not seen it yet though.
