洞爺湖マラソン!“時間切れで強制リタイア”の市民ランナー…その先がキニナル!途中棄権で何を思う?(5月19日放送)

The ANA Toyako Marathon was held yesterday. The race took participants around Lake Toya, covering a distance of 42.195 kilometers. Organizing Director Futoshi Kagawa said, "Recently, we've seen an increase in overseas participants who want to run within Hokkaido. The appeal of the Hokkaido brand is great." The participation fee has been rising every year due to rising prices, but the popularity of marathons has also led to an increase in participants. Participant: "It's a battle with yourself that becomes more fun as you do it." Participant: "I'm looking forward to eating and running." Support from someone running to celebrate their 60th birthday: "(What's 60?) To celebrate my 60th birthday." Participant: "I never thought you'd come. Since I've just turned 60, I thought I might as well try to run sub-4 (under four hours) at least once." With each of us carrying our own thoughts, we set off! The Toyako Marathon has a time limit of five and a half hours to complete. There are checkpoints at each point, and if the time is up, we're forced to retire. Today's interesting camera: 30km, Then we waited at the checkpoint at the 40.2km mark. We followed the runners closely as they battled both themselves and the time limit! The top runners ran off without even taking a break. Yotsukura reports: "Three hours have passed since the start of the race. More and more people are taking breaks and eating." Volunteer: "To recover from fatigue, some shiso juice!" Meanwhile, at the 30km mark, buses were waiting to pick up runners who had dropped out. The time limit was fast approaching. The winner was Naoyuki Kan, with a time of 2 hours, 20 minutes, and 37 seconds: "A magnificent victory!" And then, at the 40km mark, a runner who turned 60 years old and it was his birthday that day! Sixty-year-old runner: "I think I can make it in four hours!" Participant: "Wow, this is pretty tough. I dropped out halfway through last time. I'm definitely going to make up for it this time." Participant: "It's so tough. I always manage to finish just in time, but I wonder if I can make it..." Volunteer: "3 minutes until the checkpoint closes! Keep trying!!" Participant: "Oh no! I only have 1 minute left!" Unfortunately, the time has come. Participant from Hong Kong: "I'll try again! I came from Hong Kong. I'll definitely be back! Wait for me, Toyako Marathon!" Participant: "Last year, I was called back after 15 kilometers, so this time I'm very satisfied just clearing two checkpoints. It was a great race." Participant from Fukuoka: "Oh no, this must be a dream. This is the first time I've ever run a full marathon in 13 years and it's been closed. It's a dream, I guess." The time limit is approaching at the 40-kilometer mark. Participant: "One minute left? (Just a little more than one minute!)" Organizer: "5, 4, 3, 2, 1" "We're very sorry, but we're going to have to cancel!" Participant: "Oh, that was it!?" "I'm so frustrated!" Participant: "I was so close. It was tough, but I'm glad." Participant: "Oh, so I failed? That's terrible! (What are you carrying?) Udo (Why are you carrying udo?) I picked it (If I hadn't picked the udo, I might have made it) No, that's not true!! It's not the udo's fault!!" Participant: "I'm kind of relieved. I'm a little embarrassed that I didn't finish, so ha ha ha! I'll go and tell my family (or should I say my family?) That's right. (What will I tell them?) I didn't make it. Ha ha ha ha! I almost made it. I'll lie and say I made it one minute. Ha ha ha ha." *The content published here is based on information at the time of broadcast (May 19, 2025).
