[경향신문]세월호 희생자 피해자 가족 “죽을 각오요? 이미 죽었습니다”

“Someone said, ‘Do you know what shaving your head means? Shaving your head means you could die.’ So I said, ‘Are you prepared to die? I’m already dead.’” (Yoo Kyung-geun, Executive Committee Chairperson of the April 16 Family Council) Victims of the Sewol Ferry Disaster and their families shaved their heads. This came a day after the government announced its compensation standards for the victims. On the 2nd, they shaved their heads at Gwanghwamun Square in Seoul, urging the government to scrap the enforcement ordinance of the special law and reexamine the victims’ support. Jang Bu-ja, the mother of Danwon High School victim Shin Ho-seong, cried out, “I have no words. I don’t even want to. I don’t know if I could have given birth and raised my child in a country like this.” She added, “Is there a president in the Republic of Korea?” and demanded that the truth be revealed before compensation. Jeon Myeong-seon, head of the April 16 Family Council, criticized the government's proposal, saying, "The government's proposal ignores the purpose and intent of the special law and obstructs the investigation into the truth." She added, "The government has committed the despicable act of abruptly announcing compensation standards and babbling about amounts like 400 million won or 700 million won.
