Andy Burnham has reacted to Keir Starmer's resignation, and confirmed that he will try to replace him as Labour leader and prime minister. "His decision marks the beginning of a transition and it is important that this process is conducted in an orderly and responsible way. I will put myself forward as part of this process”, Burnham said on social media. While Starmer had been vowing to fight any leadership challenge, the tone shifted after Andy Burnham beat Reform UK in the Makerfield by-election on Thursday, and he announced his resignation on Monday morning.
