Rzodkiewki. Jak wysiewać i potem uprawiać rzodkiewki, żeby mieć obfite plony?
How and where to sow them? And how to care for them to ensure a bountiful harvest all season long? Radishes are worth growing for many reasons. Firstly, they are, like virtually all vegetables, healthy, rich in vitamins and minerals, such as vitamin C, B vitamins, iron, magnesium, potassium, and calcium. They also contain dietary fiber, which helps regulate digestion and maintain a healthy metabolism, and sulfur compounds, which aid in detoxification. Furthermore, eating radishes has a positive effect on our mood, as they contain folic acid, which in turn is responsible for reducing fatigue and apathy, among other things. Secondly, these vegetables are tasty, crunchy, and slightly spicy, adding flavor to sandwiches, salads, cold soups, and other selected dishes. People with sulfate intolerance or digestive issues should be cautious about consuming them. Thirdly, radishes are very easy to grow. And anyone can grow them. You don't even need a vegetable garden or a garden. A pot on a balcony or outside windowsill is enough. They're probably the easiest and fastest-growing vegetables you can sow. And you can sow them in early spring or even at the end of winter, if you have the opportunity and inclination to grow them, for example, in greenhouses, polytunnels, or under agrotextiles. It's important to choose the right variety. There are plenty to choose from, and most can be sown from March to May as a pre-crop and then from August to October as a catch crop. There are also some that are suitable for summer cultivation or just for autumn cultivation. A little more detail? We can choose spherical varieties with red skin and a thickened root collar, which are the most popular and most commonly available in grocery stores. They can also be sown from January under cover. These radishes germinate at temperatures of 2-4 degrees Celsius, so they can be planted in the ground as soon as the ground thaws and dries out slightly. Most varieties prefer cool temperatures and short days, but some can be sown throughout the season. These varieties don't have a strong tendency to produce flowering shoots in hot, long days, and we can expect a harvest well into the summer. If you're looking for these varieties, rather than traditional varieties that should be harvested before summer, pay attention to the sowing date on the packaging. In addition to traditional red, spherical radishes, you can also sow those with an elongated, cylindrical shape and a red-and-white bump, including the "18-day" variety, which germinates very quickly and, under favorable conditions, will be ready for harvest about three weeks after sowing. You can also sow spherical radishes, but not red, but purple, yellow, or white. Seeds containing a mixture of different colored radish varieties are also available. A typical summer sowing radish is the 'Riesenbutter' variety. Towards the end of the season, you can also sow winter radishes and 'Sopel Lodu' radishes, which can be harvested even in November and December, maximizing the harvest period for this vegetable. Sowing is very simple. Place the seeds in the ground in the chosen spot, about 1/2 centimeters deep. Therefore, we usually make grooves for them in the beds where we sow them. These grooves are quite large for such small vegetables, then cover them, gently tamp them down, and water them if there is no rain forecast for the near future. It's best to sow radishes in relatively small quantities, but about every two weeks, e.g., in 2-3 small rows. This way, by using a small portion of the bed, we can harvest radishes throughout the entire season. It's worth designating 2 or 3 spots in the vegetable garden for them, in which We'll be sowing them alternately, especially since these are vegetables we most often eat fresh, raw, and rarely preserve. Intercropping allows them to grow in close proximity to many vegetables, including carrots, parsley, and peas. These plants don't have high cultivation requirements. Like virtually all vegetables, they thrive in the sun, but they can also be sown in light partial shade, especially in late spring and summer. Growing radishes is great fun, especially since we can later admire and savor the delicious results on our plates. I encourage you to start sowing them, and I invite you to watch the next videos in the "Vegetable Garden" series and other videos on the OGRÓD NA CO DZIEŃ channel.
