The hyperbola has an equation very similar to the equation of an ellipse, with the main exception being that there is a subtraction of terms instead of addition. This subtraction comes from the definition of the hyperbola, which involves the difference in focal radii. We will learn about the asymptotes, graphing, and the behavior of the hyperbola when x approaches infinity. We will learn that the equation of a hyperbola approaches a line as x approaches infinity. We call this line the asymptote of the hyperbola.
