Aizuwakamatsu City's bar district once boasted the highest number of bars relative to population in the Tohoku region. 🍻 It was filled with office workers stopping for drinks after work and young people enjoying the night. Bar hopping and drinking until the early hours of the morning was a common sight. Walking around the area again in the Reiwa era, those old scenes appear to float and disappear like a heat haze. Only vague memories hang from the eaves of closed bars. Many small bar districts have disappeared entirely, or are now reduced to just a few establishments, creating a sense of loneliness. Walking through these bar districts, you might even get the illusion of walking through a Showa-era town, where the mysterious streetscapes give the impression of walking through a town from the Showa era. It might be worth exploring these bar districts that still retain their Showa-era atmosphere. Aizu has many bar districts that retain this Showa-era atmosphere.
