Tirvia (in Catalan and officially, Tírvia) is a Spanish municipality in the Pallars Sobirà region, in the province of Lleida, located in the center of the region at the confluence of the Cardós, Ferrera, and Coma de Burg valleys. In addition to the municipal capital, it includes the villages of La Baña and Terveu. In 1938, fighting and bombings reached the municipality of Tírvia (Pallars Sobirà). The destruction was so extensive that, after the war, it was placed under state control. 90% of the town was affected. The following decade was dedicated to its reconstruction through the General Directorate of Devastated Regions. A tour through the town center of Tírvia reveals the pre-war architectural heritage and the changes that followed, the blend of medieval spaces in a walled village with new constructions from the mid-20th century, and the experiences that led to depopulation and the loss of half the population.
