At the end of October, security forces in Moscow carried out a special operation against Jehovah's Witnesses: a new group of believers was accused of organizing the activities of an extremist organization and involving other people in it. The evidence was reading the Bible and discussing it with like-minded people: it was on these grounds that the court sent the "witnesses" to pretrial detention. We spoke with the wives of two of them - Sean Pike and Sergei Tolokonnikov. Both women told how their home was broken into at 6 a.m., a search was conducted by a dozen investigators and "evidence" was found: money collected from a gardening association for electricity and a conference program from three years ago. When one of the women said that she would like to go with her husband and wait for him from the investigator, she was told that they could provide such a joint wait - for 7 years. At the same time, officially no one is persecuted for their faith in Russia: the Russian Federation assures the ECHR that only legal entities of the "Witnesses" are banned, and the state does not encroach on religious doctrine. The Investigative Committee, however, has not heard anything about this position, which was voiced, among other things, at the UN, and continues to imprison people for huge terms for interpreting the Bible.
