Armoured vehicles of the thirties were very different from tanks of today. Engineers were still experimenting with even the most basic of design principles and tested all sorts of approaches. Many of them thought that supreme firepower was key — that's why at some point we saw the advent of multi-turreted tanks that were epic, fearsome, sometimes borderline stupid… but still kind of awesome.
