London to Cape Town Trip 2026 Land Rover series 1 from HK renew engine.
The cylinder block has been thoroughly prepared, crack tested, pressure tested, new core plugs and camshaft bearings fitted prior to machining. The CNC machining centre in the videos first finds the coordinates, skims the deck, chamfers the bores to ensure piston rings go down the bores without breaking and finally bores the cylinders. We did fit liners that you can see in the photograph but finished with 020 oversize pistons. Reason being a minor mishap with the standard rebore. Unless there is any misadventure or huge mileage this engine should not need another rebore. If necessary you can go to 040 or 060 if you ever need to. The engine was 060 to start with. Conrod bushes again CNC machine finds the coordinates and bores the small end bushes. You will see the compression ratio is changed from 7:1 to 8:1. This is worth 10-15BHP plus the improvement from the gasflowing. This engine will perform best with the original Solex or Zenith carburettor (36mm) The green machine is the crankshaft grinder. The crankshaft did not need grinding and has been polished. It was 30/30 already. New bearing sets have been fitted.
