In a personal interview, Anna Walentynowicz presents her memories and reflections on the significance of the Polish Pope for Solidarity and for Poland. She discusses the following topics: the meaning of the Pope's words "Do not be afraid" (00:01:27); the sense of strength stemming from the election of the Polish Pope (00:03:07); the visit of the "Solidarity" delegation to the Vatican in 1981 (00:06:14); the circumstances of the invitation of the "Solidarity" delegation to Rome and the unofficial points of the visit (00:08:18); sending the book "Cień przyszłości" (Shadow of the Future) with a dedication to the Holy Father, at the request of Wanda Półtawska (00:17:16); the Pope's prayer for Anna Walentynowicz's health and the Pope's funeral (00:22:02). The late Anna Walentynowicz (1929-2010) was a legendary activist in the democratic opposition in Poland, a participant in the December 1970 and August 1980 uprisings (she was dismissed from her job at the Gdańsk Shipyard on August 7, 1980, and the demand for her reinstatement became the first demand of the shipyard strike that broke out on August 14, 1980). She was awarded the Medal of Freedom and the Order of the White Eagle. She died on April 10, 2010, in the Smolensk crash of the plane carrying the official Polish delegation en route to commemorate the anniversary of the Katyn massacre.
