É palco de uma romaria dedicada a São João Baptista, uma das Romarias mais antigas do Alto Minho que se realiza no dia 28 de agosto de cada ano. Desconhece-se a partir de que altura teve início a romaria bem como a origem do mosteiro. Na literatura alguns autores defendem que o primitivo mosteiro havia sido fundado por São Frutuoso, entre 623 e 1123, antes da fundação do reino de Portugal. Apesar de se desconhecer a data da sua fundação, as suas características apontam para os finais do século XIII, pois este tem uma arquitetura românica A capela passou por algumas reformas ao longo dos séculos. É tradição que os peregrinos chegados ao mosteiro, vão dar 3 voltas a capela, e no fim, entregam uma esmola ao São João e outra ao diabo. ------------------------------- Monastery of São João D'Arga.
