How To Prepare For A (Stellar) PhD Interview: Get Insider Information!

Buy me a coffee: buymeacoffee.com/r3ciprocity Listen to my new podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/nz/podcast... I talk about how to prepare for a PhD interview, particularly if you are thinking of going to a research PhD program. The focus should be on the researcher. Rather than think about yourself during a PhD interview, you should really be thinking about the researcher and what their interests are. Read their papers before you go to the interview. Research gaps that you are thinking about might reflect their research. Here are the most important questions that people ask which impress most researchers in any field: I read your paper on X, do you think you could have applied it to Y? How come you did not do this Z with your paper? I have been very much interested in X, have you ever thought about doing research in this area? You can also relate the research ideas about what you are currently strong at or where you can develop even further as a scholar: I have been puzzling about X lately, what courses do you offer that help me investigate this topic even more? You might also want to talk about data that you might get access to, that might be original or interesting. This is where you might think about discussing your previous work contexts. I have been working in this area, and there's this really interesting results that I often see. Can I tell you about it? As you can see, the questions that most impress a researcher are questions that are curious, or that can advance that researchers career. Topics include the sharing economy, altruism, investing in technology, starting a business, and bounded rationality. My favorite videos pertain to incentives, goal setting, and learning from failure to drive behaviors such as weight loss, stopping telemarketers, creating novel technologies, and creating new movements. https://r3ciprocity.com: Peer proofreading and editing platform A new platform where you can earn credits by editing other people's documents. Use these credits to have your own work edited. If you do a good enough job, you can convert these credits to money. The goal of the platform is to get people to 'pay it forward' and help other people out by creating incentives for people to give back.
