Late spring on the homestead | slow living in the garden

It is finally time to start eating from the garden, and today dinner is coming straight from what is growing outside our back door. We are a family living a quieter, more rooted life on our Michigan homestead, sharing the beauty of seasonal living, scratch cooking, and the simple rhythms of a summer garden. This afternoon we headed out to cut lettuce and pull radishes, then made our way over to the corner of our pasture where a massive chive plant has been blooming and waiting for us. That chive plant has a story, and it is one of my favorite things about this land. We made chive blossom vinegar, chive blossom compound butter, and then used that butter as the base sauce on a grilled pizza with mozzarella, pepperoni, fresh basil, and a balsamic honey glaze. Everything on the dinner table tonight started outside this morning.
