The Outlier has a displacement hull shape, which feels different from Andrew's Apex board that has more concave. He found the Outlier a bit slow to paddle out, but once on the wave it felt fast and loose. At 6'2" 200lbs, Andrew's belly button was right at the waterline on the Outlier, which is good information for riders of similar size. The 8.5" upright fin combined with the board's rocker made it really fun and responsive, allowing Andrew to bank off the lips. However, he did find it a bit tippy when just sitting on it. Compared to his Apex longboard, the Outlier has a more old-school feel, with good flex and projection out of turns. Andrew has taken the Apex out in bigger conditions up to head-high, but finds the Outlier better suited for smaller, clean days. Andrew really enjoyed the Outlier's lively, maneuverable performance, especially when the waves were in the chest-high range.
