Key West 60th Birthday Vacation We travelled on the Fort Myers to Key West Express Ferry, which takes around 4 hours and is actually quicker than driving. The Ferry is a fun part of the holiday experience and a great way to arrive in Key West. We spent 2 days exploring Key West and experiencing its unique old town charms and vibrant social scene. Beautiful houses and architecture, quaint shops and gorgeous beaches all within a 30 minute walk of the center. Fort Zachary offers a glimpse of the past and a break from the bustling streets, a beautiful park well worth a visit. Top Tip For The Key West Express - arrive early to secure a good seat! The Top Deck is great when leaving the harbor, seeing dolphins was amazing! However, once out at sea, the boat goes really fast and even on a calm sunny day it was way too windy to stay on the top deck for any period of time.
