Federal Signal Thunderbolt 1000 Siren Test @ Evanston Fire Station #2, Evanston, IL – 12/3/19

A few months ago, I got word from Evanston's city council that they were going to replace their old system with newer Federal Signal 2001-130's after the November test. However, it's now December and the Federal Signal Thunderbolts are still up & active. I'm thinking that Evanston is either in the process of figuring out the spending expenses for a new siren system or is dealing with budget cuts causing them to hold off on the project for a while. They've got to be in the process of upgrading their system since they shut off the Bolt located by Evanston Township High School. There does happen to be a map of the current siren system on the City of Evanston proposal document in which the link for that will be at the bottom. Anyways, since I filmed a 1000T when I went to Evanston in September, I decided to hit up a 1000 this time. This 1000 is located on the roof of Fire Station #2 between the intersection of Custer Ave & Madison St. At first, I had a feeling this siren would fail since there were other distant sirens going off, but then 4 minutes later, it finally fired up doing its typical 1-minute alert (skip to 4:28 to hear the Bolt wind up). Definitely something you wouldn't expect to happen when coming to an Evanston test. You'll also get to see the torn apart mesh blow during the test, LOL!!! Despite the delay, I finally got to hear a regular-sounding 1000 activate, unlike the one I filmed in Lombard, and can now check that off my bucket list. As far as I know, Evanston still has its original Bolts from the 1950's & are active up to this day. If I somehow find out that Evanston has replaced some of their older sirens, I will notify you guys or encourage you to notify me about this matter. Anyways, sirens in Cook County & most of Illinois are tested on the 1st Tuesday of the month at 10:00 AM. Here are some other sirens that I heard or thought I heard in the background before & after this 1000 tested including the time stamps: 0:05 = Morton Grove's Whelen 4004's or Lincolnwood's Whelen Fin-Back Vortex's 0:56 = Chicago's early-generation Federal Signal 2001-SRN's 1:13 = Northwestern University's Whelen 2905's & 2902 (The CTA Green Line train passing through at 1:26 could've also been generating that 465 Hz pitch). 1:35 and/or 1:57 = Skokie's ASC T-128's 2:41 = Evanston's 1000T's 2:47 = Wilmette's 2001's 2:50 = Winnetka's 4004's and/or Glencoe's Fin-Back Vortex's 3:38 = some distant 2001 (This one seemed to be doing fast wail, but I'm not sure if it's part of Wilmette's siren system). 5:50 = Evanston Fire Station #4's Federal Signal Thunderbolt 1000T (Apparently, this Bolt seemed to ignore the cancellation tones again & test for a full 3 minutes).
